Cairo Sightseeing

Cairo is a city like no other,

It is the the largest city in Africa and it is famous for its own history, preserved in the fabulous medieval Islamic city and Coptic sites in Old Cairo. The Egyptian Museum in the center of town is a must see, with its countless Ancient Egyptian artifacts, as is shopping at the Khan al-Khalili bazaar.

Cairo is also home to a vibrant modern society. The Midan Tahrir area (Tahrir Squar), built in the 19th century under the rule of Khedive Ismail, has strived to be a "Paris on the Nile" and where the Egyptian revolution has been born.

Cairo is a city like no other, and an essential destination if you’d like to learn more about the ‘real’ Egypt.

No visit to Cairo is complete without a trip to the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities, the Pyramids and the Sphinx.

The Museum was founded in 1858 by French archaeologist, Auguste Mariette, the museum is home to some of the world’s most incredible Pharaonic treasures. The highlights are the dazzling Tutankhamun exhibits, which have to be seen to be believed, and the Mummy Room, with its precious human remains.

The Pyramids were famous thousands of years ago and continue to awe visitors today: men fear time, but time fears the pyramids. A few minutes walk from the Great Pyramid is the Sphinx, with its lion’s body and human head.

A trip from Dahab to see all these treasures normally starts with a pick up at 3.30am (tbc), and drive to Sharm El Sheikh airport. Board a one hour flight to Cairo and arrive early morning. Transfer from Cairo Airport to the Egyptian Museum. Mid morning travel to the Pyramids, with the Sphinx only a short distance away on foot. After lunch you have the afternoon free to shop and explore Cairo. Early evening you’ll transfer to Cairo airport and fly back to Sharm El Sheikh, arriving at approximately 9pm, before driving back to Dahab.
