Shogayrat (Little Trees)

Drift diving at it's best!

Shogayrat which means "little trees" gets its name from the large fan coral formations.

It is a stunning drift dive enriched with an amazing range of hard and soft corals and it is situated approx. 10km south of Dahab and just north of Gabr el Bint. It can be reached either by camel or by boat.

There is a small Bedouin shelter you can use as a marker for entry orientation. The dive site itself consist of a steep sloping reef (to around 16m) then a large sand shelf area to 20m followed by a drop off of a few hundred meters. Visibility varies from 15-30m.

Entry techniques will vary according to conditions. From the surface it is relatively easy to see the sand shelf and drop off. Follow north along the drop off till you find a large open crack that descends down the reef wall (approx 6-7m wide) starting at 18m. Make your way down this to your max depth and then exit left onto the wall.

As you ascend up the wall there will be a huge Gorgonian Fan forest full of glass fish and Soft Corals. Carry on up the wall to the sand plateau at 20m. Here you will come across a large area with giant table corals, some are up to 4m across. Hawksbill and Green Turtles are common here and schools of Milkfish are often hanging out just below the surface.


Guidelines:

• It can be reached either by camel or by boat.
• Access from shore is possible but only recommended during high tide and good sea conditions.
• Entry and exit techniques will vary according to the dive plan and conditions.
• Possibility of strong currents.
• Surface marker buoy is required for each buddy team.
